the SPD (social democratic party) was actively pushing for people to vote for the conservative hindenburg and discouraged people from voting for the communist thälmann because they believed that only hindenburg could realistically beat hitler in the elections (which he did - it just didnt help, in the end). here's a poster by the SPD from the 1932 presidential election
the text says
"Who votes for Thälmann gives his vote to Hitler! Those who want to defeat Hitler, vote Hindenburg!"
they were explicitly telling people that voting for thälmann was throwing your vote away (and therefore equivalent to voting for hitler). the strategy of the SPD was to throw their entire support behind a conservative they believed could realistically win in order to prevent hitler from winning. and it very much didnt work out in the end
ultimately communists aren't even telling you not to vote, the point is that it is completely ineffective action. when you ask 'why shouldn't we vote? we can vote and do other stuff' it is as if you had been proposing prayer as a solution to fascism and scolding anyone who said otherwise - even if your argument is 'there's no reason not to try', it implies an incredible and grave misunderstanding of what is and is not an effective means of political action. like... sure. go ahead and pray, to god or to Democracy, and buy fair-trade while you're at it, but if we're being honest, here, I think the defensiveness over it shows not genuine faith, but a desperation to engage with a system that clearly does not work, but whose alternative appears scary and unclear to you.
#granted this presidential election wasnt the most important aspect in hitlers rise to power#the parliamentary elections and centrist parties choice to side with the nazis rather than the left was i believe a lot more significant#plus as the nazis had more and more influence the last elections that did happen were not what i would call democratic#(there were armed SS and SA members 'monitoring' the process aka looking over your shoulder while you cast your vote)#also the KPD wasnt perfect and theres a lot of criticism of thälmanns very strong anti SPD stance#he considered the SPD to be the communists main enemy and firmly rejected any collaboration with them#so when the nazis already were in power the relationship between the KPD and SPD was so atrocious that any kind of joint effort#was nowhere in sight. and when the comintern called for a popular front strategy in 1934-35(?) it was already too late because#most of the KPD was already arrested at the point#this could be a point for very interesting discussions about how to go about effectively fighting an imminent fascist threat and analyzing#past mistakes#because throwing your whole support behind a conservative in hopes that he might save you was certainly a mistake#but so was the act of rejecting any and all cooperation with social democrats as much as the KPD did. i think#idk i need to read much more about thälmann and the KPD#and about the whole process of how the nazis came into power because it is really fascinating

To all the communist transvestites, VOTE👏VON👏HINDENBURG👏
I'm just as radical as you; I'm a proud member of the great Social Democratic Party of Germany! I don't know what the crazy communists are telling you, but Paul von Hindenburg is our only hope to defeat the Nazis. After we elect him, then we can discuss other politics, but this is the BARE MINIMUM, and if you don't vote for him, you clearly have this crazy purity test that'll bring us all to fascism.
I know you might be worried about his "senility" and "failing health", and I know you may not like him because of his push to the right, and I know you may be worried about the brownshirts, and the recent persecution of Dr. Hirschfeld and his work, and maybe you STILL haven't gotten over the whole Rosa Luxemburg stuff,
but none of that really matters! We need to keep the SPD in power, or else Hitler will get in charge! This is the most important and most basic thing you could do to help Germany stay a democracy. In 6 years, then maybe we can find a better candidate, but no matter what you think about von Hindenburg, he's the best shot we have at keeping the fascists out of power. We can totally push him left!
Any vote against von Hindenburg is a vote for Hitler. #Hindenburg1932
#find something better to do with your time#rather than pestering leftists to vote for a genocidal monster#you didn't push him left he pulled you right#go shut down iof and alt-right events like the rest of us#this exact situation has played out before#nazi germany#hitler#anarchism#communism#joe biden#biden#donald trump#vote blue#please vote#vote democrat#vote#fascism#rosa luxemburg#magnus hirschfeld#vote blue no matter who#fuck trump#go vote#us elections#kamala harris#2024 elections#election 2024#2024 presidential election#us presidential election#anarchist#leftist

What do you think is the worst frame for a SEKHMET-Class NHP? Why?
I went on more of an odyssey with this one than I thought.
I gave myself a rule here: I am not allowed to build a mech badly on purpose. As Dan Olson said, "if you build it out of malice, you inject it full of all your own prejudices. It ends up bad for reasons you created. It tells you nothing." Whenever I examine a mech for its suitability (or lack thereof) of SEKHMET, I must enter into it in good faith. I must try to build a good loadout and fail - I must not try to build a bad loadout and succeed.
First Appearances
I was initially going to say a Death's Head. There are a lot of frames that aren't well-suited to melee combat, but prima facie, I don't think there's a frame that by its traits and stats is more antithetical to the ethos of SEKHMET.
However. When I decided to go to COMP/CON and map out a Melee SEKHMET Death's Head for a laugh, I discovered... actually, if you disregard its traits, the Death's Head isn't the worst frame for SEKHMET. It's certainly not good - none of its traits support the playstyle - but the Death's Head is fast. It's base speed 5, just like the Blackbeard, and it has higher Evasion and E-Defence. With three ranks in an SSC mech, you can get Full Subjectivity Sync and boost its evasion to 14 with just 2 Agility, which is pretty nimble.
Also, with three ranks in an IPS-N frame - which by necessity you must have if you have SEKHMET - you can get Reinforced Frame. At LL6, with 4 points in Hull and 1 SP for Personalisations, you can get this little bastard to 26 HP, which combined with its high Evasion gives it pretty hefty staying power.
Also, a bizarre interaction that I had previously never thought of - and had to check with #rules-discussion on PilotNET - SEKHMET can use Core Siphon. There's nothing in the rules that says SEKHMET can't use protocols, and Core Siphon applies to all attacks, not just ranged ones. This can be useful if, for instance, you're close to demolishing an enemy with your first attack, and the next nearest target is an ally - your first attack roll will be buffed, and all the other attacks you make this turn will be debuffed.
This is my janked-up build:
-- SSC Death’s Head @ LL6 -- [ LICENSES ] IPS-N Blackbeard 3, SSC Death’s Head 2, SSC Mourning Cloak 1 [ CORE BONUSES ] Reinforced Frame, Full Subjectivity Sync [ TALENTS ] Duelist 3, Executioner 3, Skirmisher 3 [ STATS ] HULL:4 AGI:2 SYS:0 ENGI:2 STRUCTURE:4 HP:26 ARMOR:0 STRESS:4 HEATCAP:8 REPAIR:4 TECH ATK:0 LIMITED:+1 SPD:6 EVA:14 EDEF:8 SENSE:20 SAVE:13 [ WEAPONS ] MAIN/AUX MOUNT: Charged Blade / Fold Knife HEAVY MOUNT: Nanocarbon Sword [ SYSTEMS ] Personalizations, SEKHMET-Class NHP, Synthetic Muscle Netting, Core Siphon, High-Stress Mag Clamps
It's not... great. But it could work!
So, if it's not the Death's Head, what frame really is the worst for SEKHMET?
The Big Boy
The next stop on my journey was to think about what made the Death's Head not the worst choice, and look for a frame that didn't have those upsides. This led me - as many "worst frame for X" deep dives do - to the Barbarossa.
The Barbarossa isn't just slow, it's fucking slow. I can't express to you just how much of a drawback 2 Speed is. I had to pump Agility to 4 just to hit Speed 4, the base speed of an Everest. But when I did, the unsuitability of the Barbarossa sort of melted away as well.
The Barbarossa's Threat is huge, and if you're eligible for an IPS-N core bonus - which, again, I will remind you, you must be if you have SEKHMET - you can get Gyges frame, which buffs weapon Threat by 1. A Barbarossa with a Threat 3 Nanocarbon Sword threatens an absolutely absurd 36 spaces around it, so who gives a shit if it's not the quickest? Speed 4 isn't great for SEKHMET but if you've got move assist from your team it basically doesn't matter.
Moreover, the Barbarossa is functionally immune to most sources of forced movement. It can't be knocked prone by anything smaller than itself, already always wins grapples even before you add Synthetic Muscle Netting, and can just march over obstacles that would force a smaller mech to go around them.
Again, it's pretty jank, but this build works surprisingly well:
-- HA Barbarossa @ LL6 -- [ LICENSES ] HA Barbarossa 2, IPS-N Blackbeard 3, IPS-N Vlad 1 [ CORE BONUSES ] Gyges Frame, Heatfall Coolant System [ TALENTS ] Duelist 3, Executioner 3, Combined Arms 1, Nuclear Cavalier 2 [ STATS ] HULL:2 AGI:4 SYS:0 ENGI:2 STRUCTURE:4 HP:19 ARMOR:2 STRESS:4 HEATCAP:10 REPAIR:5 TECH ATK:-2 LIMITED:+1 SPD:4 EVA:10 EDEF:6 SENSE:10 SAVE:13 [ WEAPONS ] Integrated: Apocalypse Rail MAIN MOUNT: Impact Lance MAIN MOUNT: Chain Axe HEAVY MOUNT: Nanocarbon Sword [ SYSTEMS ] Personalizations, Synthetic Muscle Netting, SEKHMET-Class NHP, Reinforced Cabling
Reinforced Cabling - by the end, you will believe a mountain can fly.
Wait, Is Lancer Just That Flexible?
So far we've looked at two mechs I was sure would be a simple answer to this question and they were actually astoundingly viable given their respective downsides. Sure, they're not anywhere close to being top picks, but Lancer's game design seems to be tight enough that it basically never entirely locks you out of a role even if your mech isn't suited to it.
But there's still got to be a worst mech, right? Even with Lancer's legendary build flexibility, there still has to be a worst mech for the job of housing the Murder Cat, right? By definition, there has to be.
So what is it? It has to be a mech that's some combination of slow, fragile, doesn't have trait support for melee or traits that would otherwise be advantageous for a melee fighter, does have traits that would actively disadvantage it in melee, or has traits that are rendered unusable by not being on SEKHMET's permissible action flowchart. Moreover, I realised that any mech that has a Heavy slot can put a Nanocarbon Sword in it, and that weapon is so good that it can make up for most of a frame's deficiencies by itself. Therefore, we also need to exclude any frame that has a Heavy Slot.
We have two somewhat viable options here: the HORUS Lich and the SSC Emperor.
Ghost Warrior
The HORUS Lich is absurdly fragile on its base stats (although this can be easily circumvented via HASE and core bonuses), and it can't use its survival reaction while using SEKHMET if doing so would cause it to move away from an enemy. It lacks a Heavy slot, and it also lacks any traits that non-Heavy frames like the Nelson and the Mourning Cloak have to improve melee damage.
Even so, you can easily make a 22 HP, Evasion 10, E-Def 12 Lich by LL6.
-- HORUS Lich @ LL6 -- [ LICENSES ] IPS-N Blackbeard 3, HORUS Lich 2, IPS-N Nelson 1 [ CORE BONUSES ] Reinforced Frame, Overpower Caliber [ TALENTS ] Duelist 3, Skirmisher 3, Hunter 3 [ STATS ] HULL:4 AGI:2 SYS:0 ENGI:2 STRUCTURE:4 HP:22 ARMOR:0 STRESS:4 HEATCAP:5 REPAIR:7 TECH ATK:+1 LIMITED:+1 SPD:6 EVA:10 EDEF:12 SENSE:15 SAVE:14 [ WEAPONS ] MAIN/AUX MOUNT: War Pike / Tactical Knife // Overpower Caliber [ SYSTEMS ] SEKHMET-Class NHP, Personalizations, Synthetic Muscle Netting, Armament Redundancy, Reinforced Cabling, Bulwark Mods, Wandering Nightmare
This boy can do some work. The War Pike gives it excellent threat, OpCal boosts its damage per turn, and the TacKnife lets it do Hunter shenanigans, such as essentially attacking twice with its Knife. It's still not great, but it... works.
Sword of Kings
The Emperor is probably what we're looking for. It has only one Main Mount (worse even than the Lich's Main/Aux, which at least lets it do Knife Crimes), and its survivability and sustain comes entirely from Overshield, which it can't interact with at all while using SEKHMET. Even at 4 Hull, its Repair Cap is only 4, meaning it can't afford to take much damage.
-- SSC Emperor @ LL6 -- [ LICENSES ] IPS-N Blackbeard 3, SSC Emperor 2, IPS-N Nelson 1 [ CORE BONUSES ] Reinforced Frame, Overpower Caliber [ TALENTS ] Duelist 3, Skirmisher 3, Pankrati 3 [ STATS ] HULL:4 AGI:2 SYS:0 ENGI:2 STRUCTURE:4 HP:17 ARMOR:0 STRESS:4 HEATCAP:7 REPAIR:4 TECH ATK:+1 LIMITED:+1 SPD:6 EVA:12 EDEF:8 SENSE:15 SAVE:14 [ WEAPONS ] Integrated: Marathon Arc Bow MAIN MOUNT: War Pike // Overpower Caliber [ SYSTEMS ] Personalizations, Synthetic Muscle Netting, SEKHMET-Class NHP, Reinforced Cabling, Armament Redundancy, Bulwark Mods
Now, to be clear, this guy does start every fight with 9 Overshield, and regains it every time they take Structure damage, giving them 26 effective HP per Structure. But the Emperor needs to be constantly applying Overshield to allies to recharge their Storm Shield, and this is essentially impossible while SEKHMET is active!
And yet this build is still... at least remotely playable. I think we've found the worst frame for SEKHMET. I don't think SEKHMET likes the SSC Emperor very much.
And yet. You could field this. It wouldn't be good, but you could field this. It would probably die quite fast but it's not completely unplayable.
Damn, Lancer's pretty good.

rambling about my autistic top hat headcanon
i know people have a lot of headcanons about tugs characters; it should, by my blog, be no surprise which character i most often focus on.
at any rate, i wanted to talk about my autistic top hat headcanon specifically because i figure it’s probably the “deepest” headcanon i’ve got, and it means a lot to me! it’s all under the cut, so scroll at your leisure :^]
since tugs is set in the 1920s, i imagine that top hat’s whole fancy “moneyed” getup objectively lends itself to good first impressions, and that his “above his station” attire is a conscious choice due to a personal struggle with charisma and a desire to “make up” for what he lacks through his appearance.
i believe he would be rather awed by hercules, who seems to never be “out of place” in any way/able to glide by on his high charisma.
i think he’d also be very envious of/irritated at ten cents, who lacks hercules’ charisma but is still incredibly well-liked for his kind and selfless attitude.
somewhat linked to the previous point; he is relatively high-masking, and his haughty demeanour acts as a defense mechanism to try and stop people from catching his social slip-ups. in other words, “i can’t ruin things by accidentally being rude or arrogant if i act rude and arrogant all the time on purpose!”
i like to think that another part of it is him liking to be involved in workplace bickering. the guy loves drama, but also it’s a great conversation topic, and would especially be a goldmine for someone who struggles with them inherently.
i headcanon him to experience the symptoms of an SPD, particularly regarding noise, scent, and touch.
i know the canon implication is that he just values his image, but i particularly like to imagine that his scent and touch sensitivities are a part of what makes him detest garbage jobs so much.
i also like to think that star tries to avoid putting top hat on garbage detail, not necessarily because he knows the extent of the latter’s overwhelm, but simply because he knows that top hat will do a worse job because of it 😭
the noise part comes mostly from this cut line in the original “sunshine” drafts, which i think is very in-character for him:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b9b7f019f1d5759b882fc0385becd623/3e906b261f4351af-29/s540x810/ceac0991ed3d437150383ee9a8af3414bcb2ded6.jpg)
he would be a big scheduler. the guy likes to prepare. even in canon he gets in a tizzy when things don’t go to plan (which they practically never do!)
just another reason i think he’d dislike garbage jobs. it’s just not what he normally does!
on account of him being a boat, he doesn’t necessarily “stim” in the way a regular neurodivergent person would. i do, however, want to believe that sometimes the raising of his neck is an unconscious act that tends to happen when he’s feeling some kind of strong emotion.
also, i see very few autistic people talk about it online… but speaking to oneself, especially about everyday things, is also a method by which autistic people stim! of course, the only reason he does it is because it’s… a children’s tv show, but he strikes me as a yapper who likes to talk through his tasks regardless.
this has nothing canonical to support it whatsoever, but i think that he’d do his very best to avoid intense overwhelm because it’d make him blow up and yell a lot. he’d probably be very ashamed of any outbursts he had and fear that they’d make him seem undignified.
he’s certainly the kind of guy who would bitch and moan incessantly in the hopes that it would get him out of an overwhelming situation quicker
in that vein, there’s probably been one or two incidents involving warrior or ten cents where he’s just absolutely flipped out for little discernable reason, purely because he just complained the way he regularly does over and over until “the straw broke the camel’s back” and he started having a breakdown. (if warrior or ten cents ever mentioned this to him he might die a little, so it’s probably a good thing that they’re too kind to ever bring it up!)
also this is something me and my friend were discussing, but based on the fact that he’s a railway tug i think he’d have an interest in trains and railway history.
probably owns 3-4 rather expensive model trains. he’s no hoarder, but he likes what he likes and takes good care of them.
he could probably talk for hours about it, although half the time i doubt he’d let himself. he would be nervous about “slipping”/getting too excited because he wouldn’t want to come across as undignified!
that’s mostly it— thanks for reading! if you have anything else to add please feel free to leave it in the comments or reblogs 🙏 i just really like this headcanon and wanted to share it lol.
#this is tugs#top hat#ten cents#headcanon#autism#the textpost for its size is the most powerful craft afloat#sorry for being dead btw! been very busy. i was selling at a con!#i’m still quite busy between deadlines and brain fog. but i’ll try to readjust to the world as swiftly as i can👍

Ok so I usually don’t add on to a post, but this is something that genuinely so few people understand and I NEED that to change. That being said, I want to tell y’all a story. While I enjoy telling people about the time we got into ATSV as the theater lights dimmed, I never say why we were so late.
Over the summer, a friend and I were having a day out, and her aunt was our ride (along with the ride’s bf). 2/3rds of the party were people I’d never spent time with, so they naturally didn’t know about my sensory issues.
Well. The time came to have dinner, and we were trying to find a place to eat in an area none of us were familiar with. I always carry a sleeve or two of crackers for this very situation, and was urging them to pick a place they wanted to eat instead of trying to accommodate me.
Two reasons for this.
1. I knew it would take forever to find a place that served food I would only potentially eat (things could be burnt or oddly textured or taste/look off or- y’all get the jist)
2. I would have to reveal to people I’d essentially just met my extremely narrow diet. Not exactly something you’re willing to talk about on a first impression.
However, they were determined to find a place for all of us. With my friend’s help (since I was pretty much incapable of thought except for “oh shit oh shit oh shit-“) we managed to discover I eat cheese pizza. Huzzah! We were off to a pizza shop.
It was closed. We tried another. And another. The only open one we managed to find had a minimum 45 minute wait. And all the while I’m all but begging them to just go where they want to eat, I’m all set with my crackers (you get used to snacks having to hold you over until you can get home to edible food).
So by this point the adults are clearly a little stressed about making it to the movie, despite how nice they’re being about the whole thing. The rest of the party still hasn’t eaten. Them trying to accommodate me is inconveniencing everyone. else. Again, we go over the embarrassingly short list that is the things I’ll be able to eat. My friend’s aunt suggests grilled cheese.
Here’s the thing. I really don’t like grilled cheese. Any of the melty cheese type foods aren’t for me. Grilled cheese, cheese quesadillas, stuffed crust on pizza, I tend to avoid them. They make me miserable and I all but hate the texture of that melted cheese. So rubbery and rndjdjdnsndkdjddn-
BUT. I can eat them. I just won’t enjoy it. And I was so desperate to find any out of the situation that I said yes.
The shortened rest of the story is that we went to a Wendy’s drive thru for my friend and her aunt, sped to Dollar Tree and a Starbucks (this was pre boycott), genuinely ran out of Starbucks and peeled out to run through the building and step into our theatre just as the previews ended. (And that grilled cheese I paid for? I never ate it)
I know it’s a long story, and @/batmanego said it better than I think anyone ever could, but it’s really just meant to illustrate how much of a social obstacle food sensitivities are.
Every situation BatmanEgo described has happened to me several times each, and I wish more people took the time to see it as more than “you’re choosing to not eat that food” or “you’re afraid to try new things” or “you don’t even know you don’t like it because you’ve never tried it.”
Food sensitivities are real and a pain and humiliating. Medical sites describe the symptoms as occurring exclusively in small children to tweens. We have to adapt our orders to accommodate our needs on menus, or order from kid’s menus. It’s why ordering food at a restaurant is one of the most stressful situations I’ve been in. It’s embarrassing for us already. Please don’t try to make it any more than it already is.
autism allies (and even a substantial number of autistic people) when you tell them your autism-induced picky eating is not “picky eating” but is in fact an eating disorder that you can’t magically get over in the next 5 seconds:
#sensory processing disorder#spd#food sensory issues#food sensitivities#important#people never talk about this. I understand it’s far from the most important thing but people need to be talking about this#yknow how people used to feel when there weren’t sources discussing aspecs? or being gay? or having learning disabilities? that’s how it is#(cont.) for us with food sensitivities.#we’re in a barren desert of information. if it weren’t for others describing their experiences I would have thought I was the only one with#(cont.) these specific symptoms. and it’s so hard to explain them to those without them.

Victor from From and Autistic Coding in media
Just finished season 1 and a couple eps into season 2, enjoying it lots so far! Only spoilers for season 1 I think, maybe mild for season 2
Just seen a couple of people discuss Victor and Autism and neurodivergence in general and wanted to add my two cents
I reckon he's autistic-coded (and I think the distinction between is autistic and is autistic coded is important) -
- trouble socialising (esp with other adults, but having an easier time with kids - socialising well with people below and above ur peer group is fairly common)
- restricted interests (the peaches being the one thing he liked to eat jumped out to me - thought it was so sweet how donna made sure that he had some and that she was rationing them for him specifically, both so others wouldn't have them and so that he could have them regularly for as long as possible and genuinely took seriously how important it was and attempted to hold back other supplies in case they ran out to provide an alternative but was aware it likely wouldn't work - she looked at why he liked the peaches and accommodated his needs not just in terms of well this will keep him happy but in a caring way for him as a person, such a little thing but damn made me like donna so much)
- the visual language of how he's presented - wearing his (casual flannel) shirt buttoned all the way up to the neck and pants cuffed, just like how he did as a kid, holding onto an object from his childhood, posture that is overly "correct", slightly shambley walk, 'evasive' body language that avoids eye contact etc - ! important to specify here that I'm not saying all autistic people dress or move like this, I for one hate things touching my neck so you wouldn't catch me dead in a button up all the way to my neck, but this visual language/costuming/physicality is super common for male autistic-coded characters as a visual shorthand to express restrive patterns of behaviour/outsider from social norms of dress, so it jumped out at me right away. Two other examples that spring to mind are young Sheldon and elementary Sherlock Holmes
- the language/tonality he uses - often repetitive to express the rules while not always explaining why (example being when jade takes his violin and ransacks his room, he doesn't explain why jade shouldn't go into his room or how it made him feel, he visually shows distress and repeats the rule that jade violated, even when jade explains his pov - victor responds in his face to the comment I thought you were dead, seemingly understanding that that's reasonable, but it's not relevant to the rule as he isn't dead so he repeats the rule) - he's often fairly monotone/expressionless as well - I don't know how to explain this but some of his inflections/patterns of speech are very familiar to me in terms of how I and other autistic people I've met talk. There's something about how and where the voice goes up and down in a sentence that I can't really explain
- disliking change (eg. peaches)
And I'm sure there's more but these are the main ones I remember
NOW!!! onto my broader points
I have seen some people online argue that:
he's not autistic he's just traumatised
This is rational and I get it! He's presumably been alone since a very young age so not 'socialised', he's had to learn the rules of this place and stick to them or die and so on. The behaviours of cPTSD and asd have a large amount of overlap.
However, my first point would be that a traumatised autistic person (which is most autistic people tbh) look/act different from traumatised non-autistic people. Most autistic people that you meet are traumatised, and there's a lot of traumatised people who aren't autistic. Having cPTSD and having a trigger to a specific sound, for example, is different from having SPD and getting tired/stressed/having a meltdown from most sounds being too loud and your nervous system being unable to distinguish between a relevant loud noise and an irrelevant loud noise and giving you all noises at the same level and stimulating your nervous system to react to them the same, for example. In cPTSD your nervous system is likely also inflating lots of noises, because lots of noises were relevant to your survival in a traumatic environment - but in SPD (something many ASD people have and some argue may be a major facet of the disorder that has, until recently, been unhelpfully diminished in diagnostic resources) this would happen whether or not you were traumatised.
The collection of traits in the DSM is descriptive of a way of processing the world around you - and when people argue that Victor is autistic, they're saying that he is behaving in a way that appears to be characteristic of a certain combination of traits. Additionally, he was old enough to experience some socialisation, and had enough resources to experiment with other ways of dressing - there presumably have been other people that have come to the village over the years, as well. What I see in the character is a very traumatised autistic adult using patterns of behaviour that are explicitly autistic in order to survive in a terrible situation, HOWEVER I would argue that it doesn't matter very much
Regardless of whether he is or is not autistic (he's a fictional character and we can never have enough info to really know unless the characters or creators of the show explicitly say it, ofc) what is relevant in my opinion is that he is CODED to be autistic.
The way the character is presented is similar to a lot of tropes in media about how autistic characters are presented. Whether you think that the character in and of himself is or is not autistic, I think it's fair to say that the way he is characterised is similar to a lot of other male autisic-coded characters in media
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
It's important both in terms of how we analyse/interpret the specific media, and how this can impact social understanding of autism more broadly
First of all, it may tell us something about how Autism is portrayed in media. An autistic character in another piece of media who has not experienced the same levels of insane trauma in a horror setting is thought to behave similarly to a character who has experienced these things.
Secondly, it tells us about how the other characters in the world relate to Victor. Why do they instantly see him as being weird, when initially the only thing he does is simply have a conversation with a new resident? He's instantly seen as a threat by the dad, explicitly seen as weird by everyone else, where the young girl who murdered someone is seen as someone safe, and positive for taking care of the child and distracting them from the horrible new situation they find themselves in.
Honestly, he's initially presented as a sexual threat to both children - I've seen some ppl online refer to him as 'paedophilic'. Why is this?
I would argue it's because autistic traits, down to the way autistic people move and speak, are seen as inherently threatening and other. I don't even blame the people who do read him as predatory, as it's so common in media to be presented with people who look/behave like Victor ending up being creepy and weird. Autistic people are infantilised, seen engaging with children, and the audience is told they're weird - even the dad was so strongly hostile to Victor harmlessly talking to his child BEFORE he took him into the forest (something that I completely agree any parent would be reasonable for responding to extremely hostily). It was clear this was something Victor was used too as well.
This is a common trope. A weird, socially inept older person forms an unlikely friendship with an open-minded child - who is often discouraged from being friendly with this person, as they are viewed as sinister and a threat from adults in their life. This is used as a double-bluff - the real threat to the child is actually the young woman who the adults are fine with spending time with their child, as they view her as fundamentally non-threatening.
This enabled me, as a viewer, early on, to discount the information that was alluding to Victor being a threat - but its also a really frustrating trope, because it relies on the fact that audiences do see autistic patterns of behaviour/speech/movement as fundamentally other/threatening. Even if you subvert this trope by making the threat come from somewhere else, and tell the audience that really they're bad/foolish/wrong for thinking Victor was a threat, you're still using the same tropes that make real autistic people be viewed with suspicion simply for existing in the world. Victor is still portrayed as creepy, and still has to earn the protagonists trust in a way other characters don't. He, and other autistic coded characters, still start off in a deficit, at a negative, where other characters start off with a neutral or positive. This really does impact real life people as well!
Another trope that is used that is relevant is the 'weird' character having a special amount of knowledge about the problem at hand that other characters discount because of their weirdness (knowledge often initially only shared with an open-minded child character). This is so frustrating! I even remember this coming up in The Dressmaker, when the intellectually disabled character (I think? It was one of those very generalist disabled character presentations, to my knowledge) witnessed the crime but no-one thought to ask them who did it till the end, and initially presumed he had done it or something (I still enjoyed the movie tho). Its bizarre to me that none's asking Victor what he knows - he even expresses early on to the kid that noone listens to him or cares, from memory. I find this so frustrating, and is again really common - and is also a part of the othering of autistic coded characters - they're 'not of this world', but are part of both and none at the same time.
While this is something that many autistic people feel and experience, it's partially because we're ostracised from our peers because we're so 'weird', so it's really frustrating to see this replicated time and time again in fantasy, horror and thriller genres especially - it sort of reenforces a social standard that's causing the problem. Rather than create understanding and support the elimination of notions of 'weirdness', even if the character is important and initially creepy but not a threat, they're still not of this world. It's still reasonable to see them as weird, because they are weird. The characters are rational for responding to the autistic coded character as if there's something off, because there is - even if they're ultimately on the same side.
This also has real-world impacts. People discount likely threats in favour of fear of unfamiliar behaviour. For example, the whole predatory thing - autistic people are more likely to be victims of predatory behaviour, not perpetrators of it (for example, autistic women are 3x more likely to have been sexually assaulted than non-autistic women). However, there's these stereotypes in media where an autistic character is so weird that they're viewed as threatening - and, in some crime genre tropes, for example, the threat is confirmed. Even though most predators are stand up members of the community (compensating for their misdeeds via good acts) and people are surprised that they were perpetrators of horrific crimes - crime is often so horribly mundane - the media focuses on portrayals of mentally ill loners, utilising coding that is similar and sometimes the same as the coding of autistic characters. Not saying that no autistic person comments a crime of course, they demonstrably do, but utilising a media shorthand for violent/predatory criminals that is also used for autistic characters - as it is much more conforting for audiences to feel as if they would be able to tell from someone's weird behaviour if they're likely to be a threat - can have some really troubling real world consequences. Also not saying that no autistic coded character can possibly be portrayed as a villain - I really enjoyed Zac's plotline in Bones for example, especially the relationship that the two characters had - but it's the focus on these 'weird, socially inept' villians, over the far more common absolutely totally 'normal' person/family member/ local upstanding citizen that makes people disproportionately fear/stigmatise autistic ways of being
Then, other shows play off of this coding to 'subvert' it, reenforcing the connection along the way
All this being said, I really like Victor, I loved his relationship with Donna, and I'm really enjoying the show more broadly. However, I could defs see a lot of the narrative of s1 coming because of the shows use of autistic coded behaviours for Victor
I found it interesting that some fan theories have actually centred Victor's neurodivergence, and suggested that other characters are also neurodivergent and that might be why some of them are here/chosen - I find that interesting, especially because of the use of 'psychosis' in the show being a conduit for seemingly real voices of people who have passed away there
It will be interesting to see where they take it, and I'm excited to see what else happens in season 2 and even more excited for season 3 - but yeah, Victor is defs autistic coded, and some of those tropes do have negative knock-on consequences. Defs something that will impact my enjoyment of the show, depending on where they take it! It could be awesome and exciting and could be devastating or eye rolling etc but still excited to watch

I know the subject of ToqGer not being adapted has been discussed to death but it really just is interesting that Sentai themed with or ones that just use a variety of vehicles have been okay to adapt for years (Turbo, RPM, Lightspeed Rescue, SPD, Operation Overdrive) but suddenly ToqGer is impossible to adapt because of the train theme. Where is the logic in that kids who watch seasons with cars and ambulances and police bikes will suddenly draw the line at trains

Ok go with me here - @fruityfirehose and I have been exploring a few things while chatting, and one of the things we’ve been contemplating is related to the lightening strike and Bucks coma dream and how it relates to bi Buck and the Tommy of it all.
Something we discussed is the idea that Daniel in the coma is actually Evan and that Buck essentially has multiple personalities (metaphorically speaking - I’m not implying that Buck has spd or anything).
I know it sounds a bit of a leap and illogical, but it does make sense I promise! It’s part of why my theory that Tommy is an alt version of Buck and why Tommy insists on calling him Evan is so interesting as a concept.
It’s kind of hard to explain but hopefully I make sense!
Buck has been going through his life ‘struggling’ with his identity - with fitting in in the world he existed in in any given moment. This has been because two versions of him existed inside him as essentially one person - he is both Evan and Buck (think conjoined twins type situation but with personality instead of the physical body) and they struggle with each other for dominance.
Evan is obviously tied to the Daniel (and his ghost) of it all, and that side of Buck has been dominant for most of his life, but as Buck put distance between himself and his parents and his childhood home, the ties to Daniel weakened until the Buck part of Buck was able to become dominant - with moments of Evan regaining control during this time (in the same way that Buck probably surfaced occasionally during his childhood - most likely with Maddie). The lightening strike is the moment when Evan and Buck separate - the lightening strike severs the thing that has been tying them together - Daniel (hence the prevalence of Daniel in Bucks coma dream!)
So now they are no longer conjoined and in a split personality type of way they exist as two separate people. But only one can survive and move on - where we’re at now is approaching the moment Buck has to choose who he will become - does he regress and become Evan - letting go of Buck. Or does he let go of Evan and become Buck.
Tommy coming into the picture is a physical representation of this choice. Its why Tommys past is so important as a hurdle for Buck - and why the fact Tommy has grown a bit but not that much is important. It’s why Tommy calls Buck Evan - it is Evan trying to assert control - the control he had when Evan and Buck were connected.
It’s about making the choice of who he becomes - which path he follows and once he makes his choice he can embrace who he is fully rather than by the half measures he has been doing up to now - because he will no longer be at war within himself!
It also makes the not realising he’s bi integral to it all as well, making it even more interesting - because it’s Buck who is bi - not Evan (I know technically Evan is too but just go with me and the metaphor here) - Evan represents repression - heteronormativity and trying so hard to conform - to become whatever is needed of him in the moment. Which is what Tommy represents as well and why he is Evan - that is what he did - repressed himself and became what he needed to be to survive (at the 118 pre Bobby and I guess through his childhood as well).
The thing is, Tommy won’t change or grow further - he allowed himself to be queer - which benefits him but no one else (I.e his queerness is freeing for him - he gains from it, but confronting and dealing with the racism and sexism - making reparations and learning - doesn’t have any direct benefit to him so those parts haven’t grown or changed - he is still those things. - the fact Buck hasn’t been shown to be any of those things is irrelevant - they are representations of a concept - the who Buck could’ve become had he not ended up at the 118).
But buck can and will change and grow - we’ve seen it through the past 7 seasons, and it’s why he’ll ultimately break up with Tommy, because Tommy and Evan are compatible but Tommy and Buck are incompatible. Buck will choose to be Buck and not Evan and so they can never work, because that tug of war between Buck and Evan cannot continue. One has to win in the end, and as Evan is static/ weakening, while Buck keeps growing and being nurtured by the firefam and Eddie and Chris, Buck is the one who will win out in the end.
#the hurdle Oliver and Tim have talked about is essentially a fork in the road - buck has to make his choice he cannot be both#Buck is gonna pick Buck not Evan#brain do be whirring!#anti bucktommy#anti tommy kinard#anti tommy#911 spoilers#evan buckley#911 abc#buck

About This Blog
I’ll probably mainly be posting about the progress on my physical diagnoses. I will be posting about PT, my chronic pain, chronic dislocations and subluxations, chronic fatigue, pre-syncope and co., and everything to do with my physical symptoms and struggles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More Things
I’m going in for PT twice a week, and I’m doing home exercises.
I had an appointment with my eye doctor on 10/14/2024. Prescription changed, slightly worse.
I had an appointment with a cardiologist on 11/4/2024 to figure out if I have POTS and hEDS as well, and came back negative for all, but the doctor was a medical gaslighter, so we’re getting things re-tested by someone different.
I had an appointment with a gender clinic on 11/4/2024 to start the process of diagnosing and treating my neurodivergencies, and it went really well.
I went for bloodwork today (9/20/2024), and I was tested for diabetes and more things, but I do not have it. The tests showed that I have poor liver function, so we’re doing things to start helping with that. We’re hoping to test for the hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia in the future sometime.
I went for a gynecologist appointment on 11/15/2024 for suspected PMDD, and am now on menstrual-suppressing medication.
I had an appointment with the gastroenterologist on 11/26/2024, and now we’re going for testing later on to confirm celiac, to make sure my thyroid is healthy and okay, and then testing for both IBS and Gastroparesis.
I had an appointment with a Gender Clinic on December 2nd of 2024 to discuss testosterone for in the future, gender dysphoria, and had a binder fitting. I’m being referred to an endocrinologist for testing to see my hormone levels and etc., and we’ll hopefully be able to get an appointment in January, maybe February, but hopefully sooner than all that.
I had an appointment with a Psychiatrist who specializes in ADHD and Autism, on December 4th of 2024, who gave us referrals to psychologists who also specialize in those, so that we can get testing for them both.
I have an appointment with an endocrinologist on January 29th to test hormone levels and hopefully get on testosterone ASAP.
I have an appointment with the AMPS Program to do mass overall testing of my body, and hopefully get referrals to specialists and options as to what’s going on.
I suffer from chronic pain, chronic dislocations & subluxations, chronic stomach issues, hypermobility (about an 6/9 on the Beighton Scale, plus hypermobility outside the Beighton Scale), chronic fatigue, and more stuff.
I own some mobility aids (forearm crutches & cane) and am hoping to get more in the future (specifically wheelchair, I’m saving up for it, but might be able to get it this or next year), and I have compression socks to help with blood pooling. I also have joint support braces to help during flare ups with subluxations and dislocations.
I am also celiac, have a dairy allergy, have environmental allergies, like dust, mold, and pollen, have random allergies like bananas, peanuts, eggs, any sort of concentrated sugars or things with lots of sugar in them (natural or added), specific adhesives, amoxicillin, random hand soaps, random hand sanitizers, certain kinds of bleach, random kinds of metals, kiwi, some deodorants, and random acne face washes.
I struggle with my eating due to my undiagnosed ARFID, POTS, and possible Gastroparesis. So, beware, I am always incredibly mood swingy due to that.
I’m a reality shifter, and have shifted about 5 or 6 times (parallel realities).
I’m a beginner Dual Faith Polytheist. I am in contact w/ a lot of Gods, and have altars for a few. I do have religious trauma with Christianity/God/Jesus though, so if you’re heavy with that on your blog, please shoo shoo.
My Special Interests are: Wings Of Fire, Harry Potter (fuck the author, I’m mainly here for the dead gay wizards), Dragons, and currently my most active special interest is Neurodivergency & Disabilities.
My Current Hyperfixation is: Neurodivergency & Disabilities, specifically my own.
I’m queer in many ways: Trans (FTM), Genderqueer, Enby (and under the umbrella), Xenogender, AroAce (Homoalterous, Panqueerplatonic, Homoexteramo, Pansensual, Panaesthetic, Panplatonic), Polyamorous, T4T-leaning, and Lesboy.
Tone tags/indicators are incredibly helpful for me, PLEASE USE THEM!
If you have any questions about anything, please ask me and I will not be bothered.
I don’t have the energy to make a DNI list, but just know that I will block you loads if you do fall under my mental DNI list.
🌟 How to Practice Self-ERP and CBT for SPD
Step 1: Identify Your Comfort Zone
Reflect on where you feel safe versus where discomfort arises (e.g., casual conversations, being part of a group, or discussing feelings).
Write down situations that push you outside your comfort zone, ranking them by difficulty.
Step 2: Gradual Exposures (ERP)
Begin with a small step.
Example: Make eye contact or share a brief comment with a coworker instead of avoiding interaction entirely.
Focus on staying present without withdrawing emotionally.
Celebrate your effort, regardless of how the interaction goes.
Step 3: Challenge Negative Beliefs (CBT)
When thoughts like “I’m not good at relationships” or “I don’t care about people” arise, ask:
“Is this always true?”
“What evidence supports a different perspective?”
“What’s the worst that could happen if I tried?”
Replace self-critical thoughts with more balanced ones: “I can learn and set boundaries that protect my needs.”
Step 4: Build Emotional Awareness
Practice identifying and naming your emotions. Journaling or mindfulness exercises can help.
Experiment with sharing a small feeling (e.g., “I enjoyed the book you recommended”) in safe situations.
Step 5: Respect Your Limits
Healing doesn’t mean forcing yourself into constant social interactions.
Strike a balance between challenging avoidance and honoring your need for solitude.
💡 The Path Forward
With patience and self-compassion, SPD doesn’t have to limit your potential for connection, growth, or fulfillment. Self-guided ERP and CBT allow you to step into the world at your pace, challenging the discomfort of interaction while respecting your preferences.
Over time, you might find that relationships—even small ones—can enrich your inner world, offering you a sense of support and understanding without compromising your independence. 🌱💛
Highly Recommend This Recovery Workbook 🌟
I am in awe. Your analyses are so accurate, so insightful. I had just about given up on finding any information on SPD that wasn't just shallow descriptions of what it might look like from the outside. Your posts are the first place I have ever seen acknowledgement of hyperpermeability/hypersensitivity, hyperawareness of the social environment/seeing yourself through others' eyes, self-objectification, all the inner paradoxes that outside observers can't decipher. I was diagnosed years ago, but the clinicians dxing me had no inkling of any of this. Can I ask, what sources are you drawing on? Personal experience, or research? Regardless: Reading your posts, I have never felt so seen. I just wanted to say- thank you!
You're welcome. It's good to hear that my analyses are resonating with you. My aim in creating this content has been to shine a light on important topics/experiences that are often missing in discussions about schizoid personality disorder/schizoid dynamics.
In writing my posts, I draw from a combination of thorough research and personal experience. Researching the works of psychoanalytic theorists, especially those who delve into the inner experiences of schizoid individuals such as Harry Guntrip, Melanie Klein, Ronald Fairbairn, Donald Winnicott, and R.D. Laing, who explore the complexities of the schizoid condition beyond superficial descriptions, has greatly helped to extend my understanding.
Additionally, personal experiences and interactions with individuals who identify with schizoid dynamics have provided deeper insights into the inner workings of the condition. I believe that these lived experiences bring to light the nuances and paradoxes that are often overlooked by clinicians and researchers.
Thank you for your comment, knowing that my posts have helped you to feel seen and understood helps me to see how this type of content may be valuable to others. All the best to you.
Jen: The pink Morphin Master is actually Jen from a distant timeline due to all her influence throughout the various appearances in the franchise. It’s kinda like Anne at the end of Amphibia with becoming The Watcher.
Taylor: After Wild Force Taylor decided to reach out to other yellow rangers and make a group chat, in a matter of two weeks Dustin was temporarily banned because of spamming at 2 in the morning and she had to lock Cruger and Sky in an office for an hour to discuss things after Z complained about a few SPD policies.
Amelia: Amelia is banned from France in its entirety after raiding the Paris Catacombs, for the record she gave each of those corpses proper burials…you know after having a bunch of seance sessions.
One of my absolute pet peeves in the autism community is when people say "not all autistic people struggle with socializing" because it's literally untrue. This isn't even me gatekeeping. From Mayo Clinic, "Autism spectrum disorder is a condition related to brain development that impacts how a person perceives and socializes with others, causing problems in social interaction and communication. The disorder also includes limited and repetitive patterns of behavior". If you've never had trouble socializing, being in crowds, making friends, keeping friends, following directions (written or spoken), etc then you're just not autistic (or you're oblivious, which does happen sometimes). A far more accurate statement would be that not every autistic person has the same social deficits and someone may be autistic while not fitting the stereotype of autistic awkwardness.
I'm very much for discussing the varied ways that autism affects people but the word "autism" has a meaning and including non-autistic people in the community doesn't help them or us. People who have symptoms of autism but don't struggle socially likely have another condition like ADHD, SPD, or OCD, and their symptoms might actually have decent treatment options. Trying to lump them in with autism can take away those options and promote confusion as to what autism actually is.
Firstly, let's discuss the basics. This build is fragile, as all systems-first Swallowtail builds are going to be. This mech needs heavy co-ordination with your team to focus down threats. Employ cover rigorously, stay behind the lines and make liberal use of the Invisibility from Integrated Cloak. Low survivability is the price you pay for being able to turn an enemy comp inside out.
Your armament is not going to be used very much, and so is very simple - an Assault Rifle for Reliable damage, and dual Light Nexi for enemies with high Evasion. Oracle LMG-Is consume 1 SP a pop and we're not going to sacrifice system space for guns we might never fire.
We have Personalizations on there for a tiny bit of extra HP, and Manipulators for one simple reason: sacrificial system. We don't want to lose our hacking systems, and so if we take Structure damage and lose a system, we dump the robo-hands.
With all that out of the way, let's get to the meat and potatoes of this build: the hacking tools.
We start with H0R_OS System Upgrade I, possibly the best control tool in the game, definitely the best hacking tool in the game. Puppet System lets you reposition enemies in a straight line equal to their Speed any number of times, and unlike every other form of involuntary movement in the game, it triggers reactions, meaning you can open enemies up to Overwatch attacks from your allies. Meanwhile, Eject Power Cores inflicts Jammed, shutting down an enemy's weapons and tech attacks. It isn't repeatable on the same enemy, but this often doesn't matter - shutting down a heavy hitter's weapons for a single turn often buys enough time for your team to kill them outright.
Moving on to Neurospike, a much slept-on Invade system from the Dusk Wing. We're mostly in this for Shrike Code, which is a very powerful control tool in Lancer's mid-to-late game. At Tiers 2 and 3, a lot of enemy NPC classes get multiattacks, allowing them to use their weapon twice or even thrice every time they attack with it (including during Overwatch). But Shrike Code applies 2 heat per attack, not per action, meaning that a multiattacker who attacks twice will accrue 4 heat in addition to the (at least) 2 heat you put on them with Invade, which can put them close to or at their heat cap. Neurospike also provides the more situational but still useful Mirage, which allows you to make a member of your team (including you) Invisible to a member of the enemy team.
The third and final Invade suite, Metafold Carver, is the weirdest and most difficult to use correctly, but once you master it, it becomes one of the most effective support tools in the game. The biggest trick here is that the primary targets for both of its options are not your enemies - they're your allies. Your allies can choose to accept an Invade from you without taking heat and without it counting as an attack. Once you understand this, your third eye will open and the absurd power of Metafold Carver will be unlocked.
Ophidian Trek allows you to teleport your target a minimum of 2 and a maximum of seven spaces directly towards you. This is impossibly useful for yanking your allies out of melee combat or dangerous terrain, or summoning help if you're getting flanked. You generally don't want to use this on enemies who are already close to you, but pulling hostile backliners towards your team's melee specialist is exceptionally cool and funny.
Fold Space completely removes its target from the battlefield until they start their next turn. The problem with using this on enemies is that they can decide when their turn starts, and if they have an activation remaining, it will often be "immediately after your turn ends," wasting this power - although if they've already taken their turn, you can use it to ruin enemies that rely on reactions to be useful, such as the Sentinel or Archer.
The primary utility of Fold Space, however, is that it's without a doubt the most powerful ally-focused Invade in the game. This ability can quite literally be a lifesaver. Ally went too hard on their reactor and became Exposed? Fold Space. Ally took a bad structure roll and became Stunned? Fold Space. Ally being swarmed by melee NPCs? Fold Space. Ally messing up the shot of your team's artillery? Fold Space. Ally talking too much? Fold Space. You make them completely invulnerable at the "cost" of removing them from the battlefield, which they only even care about if they're a reaction-focused build, and they decide how long they want to stay on vacation, because they can return to the battlefield at any time by starting their turn.
In terms of other support abilities, we have a beautiful SSC/HORUS combo: at the start of an ally's turn, you can Lock On to an enemy as a reaction with Lesson of the Held Image and use your Prophetic Scanners frame trait to inflict Shredded as well. This lets you strip all damage reduction off an enemy just before your ally winds up to hit them, with no chance to react or clear it.
You also have Lotus Projector to help your allies deal with Invisible enemies - standard Swallowtail stuff.
As for talents, we have Hacker to give you even more Invade options (mostly Hack./Slash for shutting down enemy tech attackers) and help with heatgunning (Nuclear Cavalier 1 is in there too, just for kicks), Spotter to provide aim assist and hand out free Lock Ons and Field Analyst to help avoid "missed it by that much" situations.
As previously stated, this is a heavily team-focused build. You are a Support/Controller to the maximum here. Expect to go entire fights without doing a single point of damage. Coordinate heavily with your team to focus targets down and ensure that you stay safe while lighting targets up for them.
+ twinkle and gene being whipped.
mildly inspired by omori. the stats:
RUBY RED
HP: 500
ATK: 90
DEF: 55
SPD: 45
A fearsome pirate.
PRINCE ALEX
HP: 500
ATK: 75
DEF: 70
SPD: 55
Heir to a throne.
in hindsight alex should have less spd than ruby to balance stats (also fits their in-canon) but whatever it’s midnight
also discussing hypothetical stats would be so fun. i think gene should just have a ridiculous amount of hp. twinkle is so fast it’s actually broken. it would be so silly trust
